LADIES DISCIPLESHIP
MINISTRY
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
Our mission is to teach, enable,
empower, equip, and challenge the ladies of the First Baptist
Church family to become disciplined followers of Christ as
we serve the Lord and each other.
The
Ladies Discipleship Ministry was birthed in 1994 under the
auspices of Pastor Josh B. Kirvin, Senior. The first meeting
was held on June 21, 1994, with Mrs. Samisteen Harris and
Mrs. Dorothy Conyers as co-ministry leaders.
Pastor Kirvin envisioned a ministry that would enable, empower,
and equip the ladies of First Baptist Church family for service
to the Lord and each other. This vision was furthered by the
first and second year study of the book, “The Measure
of A Woman” by Gene Getz. During this time, the ministry
grew in faith, commitment and members.
Years three through five, 1996-1999, found our ladies in preparation
to become effective pray-ers and pursuing the 7 steps to spiritual
renewal.
Year six began our study of body, soul and spirit. God, the
Holy Spirit, taught us many truths concerning His word, dispelled
many myths and provoked us to choose good works and righteousness.
He truly showed that He is a God of provision in the way He
anointed our teachers in the preparation and teaching of His
word. The study concluded with a production entitled “This
Is The Life” which depicted the lives of various women
in the Bible and their ensuing struggles/issues with the 3-fold
man.
During years seven through nine, 2001-2003, the ministry continued
to grow through a study on the Proverbs 31: Virtuous Woman
in Proverbs 31. A study on the book “Lord Heal My Hurts”
by Kay Arthur and “Becoming a Woman of Excellence”
by Cynthia Hearald followed. Presently, the Ladies Discipleship
Ministry is studying “The Journey to a Better Life-The
Book of Ephesians”.
Our history has also included family support in the areas
of meal support, home visitation, financial aid, cards and
letter writing for members of the FBC family and the Body
of Christ.
FBC has a long history of strong, Christian women who laborored
for the Lord. With this ministry, pastor envisioned a new
season of women coming together and looking each other square
in the eyes and saying “I can’t run this race
without you”, and then learning how to do it together.
God has blessed us with His good favor and has added His increase
in all areas of the ministry.
